Interdisciplinary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Approach to Learning

The interdisciplinary STEM approach to learning is designed to cultivate critical thinkers through enriched curriculum on Science, Math, and Computer Technology disciplines with experiences beyond the classroom. It provides an enriched learning opportunity for students who are interested in applying their knowledge and skills in Science, Math, and Computer Technology by offering an interdisciplinary method to deepen their critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. It will also lead to the selection of AP examinations in students’ senior years.

Trillium students are taught STEM through their active role in their learning as decision makers, creators, and investigators. Students are encouraged to develop creative and innovative solutions to real world issues, preparing them to meet the demands of our ever-changing and inter-connected world.

In May 2019, our Grade 11 student Nicole H. was one of only 80 students from across Canada who was invited to attend the one-week prestigious Lloyd Auckland Invitational Mathematics Workshop at University of Waterloo based on her outstanding scores in the University of Waterloo Fermat Math Contest and past successes. The workshop offers students an in-depth study in math and problem-solving, and an opportunity to work with University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics and meet the faculty members and like-minded students. Above is the photo of the 80 students from all over Canada who were invited to this event in May 2019.
